Leadership for the Future

Physicians, foundation join forces to chart new paths in neuroscience excellence.

Stanley P. Fisher, M.D., and Cheerag D. Upadhyaya, M.D., are co-directors of the Saint Luke’s Marion Bloch Neuroscience Institute. Dr. Fisher has served as medical co-director since 2015 and Dr. Upadhyaya is the interim surgical co-director.

Stanley P. Fisher, M.D.

Dr. Fisher is one of the nation’s leading experts in neuromodulation and the field of movement disorders, such as Parkinson's disease. He served as founder and co-director of the movement disorders and neurorehabilitation center at Houston Methodist Neurological Institute. His experience and passion for research and clinical excellence will help lead the Neuroscience Institute's long-term growth and development.

Cheerag D. Upadhyaya, M.D

Dr. Upadhyaya is a fellowship-trained neurosurgeon specializing in complex and minimally invasive spine surgery. After earning his medical degree from the University of Florida, he completed his neurosurgical residency at the University of Michigan. While there, he also earned a master’s degree in clinical research. Dr. Upadhyaya completed his fellowship in complex and minimally invasive spine surgery at the University of California San Francisco. 

Together, our two co-directors are dedicated to clinical and outcome research in the field of neuroscience. They lead an equally passionate multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals who provide care to patients with neurological injuries and disorders throughout Kansas City and beyond.

Marion and Henry Bloch Family Foundation

A $12 million gift from the Marion and Henry Bloch Family Foundation to Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City will help expand the Neuroscience Institute’s scope of care provided, while serving as a leader in high quality neurological care for the Kansas City community and the entire Midwest region. Dr. Fisher and Dr. Upadhyaya are charged with leading the program well into the future – building on the Institute’s reputation for excellence in outcomes and research.
