When Time is Critical, Choose Saint Luke's

Our Missouri hospitals are all recognized as Time Critical Diagnosis Centers for stroke

Saint Luke’s Hospital’s Emergency Department is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our physicians are board certified in a combination of specialties, including emergency medicine, internal medicine, and pediatrics. They are prepared to handle any medical emergency.

Innovative, lifesaving care

We provide world-class stroke and heart care for patients throughout Kansas and Missouri. All Saint Luke’s emergency physicians and nurses are trained in the same care protocols that have earned Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute and Saint Luke’s Marion Bloch Neuroscience Institute a reputation for innovative, lifesaving care.

Saint Luke’s Hospital is designated a Level I Time Critical Diagnosis Center for Stroke by the state of Missouri, meaning we offer the highest level of specialized care for the most complex stroke cases. And as a Level I Trauma Center, we provide the most advanced medical services to patients who have sustained traumatic injuries.

The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association have recognized Saint Luke's Hospital with the Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Quality Achievement Award. This means we've achieved 85 percent or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines-Stroke achievement indicators for two or more consecutive 12-month periods. And we've achieved 75 percent or higher compliance with five of eight Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality measures.

Forensic nursing

Saint Luke’s Emergency Departments also include specially trained staff to treat victims of inflicted violence: sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, and elder abuse. These nurses are credentialed and/or board-certified as forensic examiners (SANE). They collaborate with law enforcement, advocacy programs, and prosecutors to ensure bedside crisis advocacy, and to document forensic injuries—while also tending to the patient’s physical and emotional injuries. Victims of inflicted violence may access these services at any Saint Luke’s Emergency Department. To reach the program director, call 816-932-1399.

Psychiatric care

Saint Luke’s also features a unique psychiatric emergency response team linked through telemedicine to our inpatient behavioral health specialists at Saint Luke’s North Hospital-Smithville. Patients are able to be screened through a secured network connection, with treatment recommendations made to the emergency physician. Should inpatient treatment be needed, the psychiatric team will help find placement.
