Every year, home care and hospice volunteers give hundreds of hours of their time and compassion to patient and families. Hospice volunteers assist patients and families throughout the entire end of life time, including up to 13 months of supportive counseling after the death of the patient.

Volunteers assist in direct and indirect care and bereavement. Each volunteer can help with a variety of tasks. Below are a few different areas:

Direct care

  • Provide companionship
  • Respite care - stay with patient to give caregivers a break
  • Household assistance
  • Provide transportation

Indirect care

  • Office support
  • Raising public awareness
  • Fundraising
  • Special event assistance

Bereavement care

  •  Write cards and letters of support
  • A "sounding board" for feelings and emotions
  • Introducing the surviving loved one to different commuinty activities
