Welcome New GI Specialist

Saint Luke’s GI Specialists is a referral-based practice specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon and rectum, pancreas, liver, gallbladder, and biliary system. We offer multidisciplinary care in convenient, patient-friendly offices, and outpatient surgical centers.

Our team of specialists provides diagnosis and therapies for general GI disorders, including: reflux, peptic ulcers, gallstones, lactose intolerance, diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease/ulcerative colitis), dysphagia/swallowing disorders, hepatitis, celiac disease, constipation, and advanced therapeutic endoscopy, which focuses on complex biliary (liver/bile duct) and pancreatic diseases.

We're currently among a select group of physicians nationwide chosen to participate in the Essential Trial, a research study to evaluate the Primary Obesity Surgery Endoluminol (POSE™) procedure, which is an investigational, minimally invasive weight-loss procedure, for FDA approval. Saint Luke’s is the only group in the region participating in this study.

To provide optimal care for our patients, our practice also collaborates closely with Saint Luke’s Liver & Transplant Specialists and Saint Luke’s Surgical Specialists.

What should I bring to my office visit?

  • New patients and patients who have only been seen in the hospital setting previously (either inpatient or outpatient):
    • Several forms need to be printed, completed, signed, and brought to your appointment. These include the Patient Information Form, the Medical History Form (2 pages), the Authorization to Release Information, Statement of Financial Responsibility, and HIPAA Patient Consent Form (2 pages).
  • Established patients who have not been seen in our office during the current calendar year:
    • Please complete the Patient Information Form and bring it to your appointment. If it has been more than one year since you have been seen in our office, or if you have significant changes to your health history, please also complete the Medical History Form (2 pages).
  • All patients:
    • We ask that you bring a list of your current medications and dosages, your current insurance card and/or Medicare card, and a photo identification card, such as a driver's license.
    • A parent or legal guardian must accompany any patient under the age of 18 years; a spouse, parent, or legal guardian must accompany any patient who has been deemed mentally incompetent by the courts.
    • You should also be prepared to pay any applicable copayment or balance owed for previous services. Payment in full is due at the time of service for patients without insurance.
    • If you have seen another physician for this same medical concern, please either bring a copy of those records to your appointment, or request that the records be sent directly to our office. Please be sure to provide sufficient notice (about two weeks) to your other physician’s office so they will have enough time to complete your request.

What if I need a prescription refilled?

Routine prescriptions/refills will not be handled after hours or on weekends; these requests should be made during regular business hours: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 pm.

Some medications require prior authorization from your insurance carrier which may take several days or even weeks to complete. We strive to complete this process as quickly as possible, but please understand that we often have to wait for a response from your insurance carrier, so please allow ample time for your request to be completed.

Please ask your pharmacy to fax a request for a refill authorization to our office fax number: 913-491-9135. Normally, refill requests can be completed within a day or two, but please allow at least one full week for our office to process your request.

If you use a mail order service that will not fax the request, please provide us with the necessary paperwork and/or telephone number of the service. Again, please allow plenty of time for us to complete your request plus the time it takes for your prescription to arrive by mail.

What is the cancellation and rescheduling policy?

We understand that conflicts do arise, and that you occasionally will need to reschedule an appointment. We will try to accommodate your request each time; however, we do ask that you provide one week's notice whenever possible so that we will have time to offer that appointment to another patient.

If you are unable to do so, we will normally excuse the first occurrence, but thereafter we may charge a fee for lack of notice relating to an office visit or procedure. This fee must be paid before another appointment will be scheduled. Repeated missed appointments may result in terminating your relationship with our practice; the physician will determine if this becomes necessary due to non-compliance with your treatment plan.

Please also understand that the physician's schedule changes from time to time, and that we might need to reschedule your appointment. We will strive to give you as much notice as possible should this arise.
