Physical Therapy

The Children’s SPOT

The Children's SPOT (Speech, Physical, and Occupational Therapy) helps children develop age-appropriate gross motor skills.

Physical therapy patients

Our physical therapists work with young children who require physical therapy because of:

  • Decreased ability to learn new skills
  • Difficulty with body awareness in space
  • High or low muscle tone
  • Impaired cognition
  • Muscle weakness
  • Poor motor planning abilities

Physical therapy goals

Our physical therapists help children develop the ability to:

  • Roll over
  • Crawl
  • Sit independently
  • Stand
  • Walk
  • Run
  • Jump
  • Stand on one leg
  • Hop
  • Skip
  • Bounce and catch a ball

Physical therapy approaches

Typical therapy sessions might include:

  • Strengthening exercises
  • Stretching tight muscles
  • Learning new gross motor skills through therapeutic play

Physical therapy parental involvement

We invite and encourage parents to get involved in the therapeutic process. The hope is that parents will learn how to encourage gross motor skill development at home.
