Program in Clinical Laboratory Science
Academic Requirements
  • Academic Prerequisites listed here are the minimums for consideration. Admission is competitive for a maximum of 8 positions opening each July. Most admitted students meet and exceed requirements:
    • Chemistry: 16 semester hours minimum (8 in general and 8 in upper division, with at least 1 biologic chemistry course & some type of demonstrable quantitative laboratory work.)
    • Biology:16 semester hours minimum (Microbiology is required; studies in Immunology, Anatomy & Physiology are required; minimum 8 hrs in upper division.)
    • Math: 3 semester hours minimum in a college level math course or equivalent is required.
    • GPA: Students must have minimum science & overall GPA's of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) to apply. The average science GPA of those admitted has traditionally been above 3.0.

Note: Survey or remedial courses do not qualify. All work mentioned must be acceptable toward majors in those fields. Program Officials reserve the right to make all decisions about course equivalency or appropriateness. Ability to meet these minimums in no way guarantees admission to the program. Admission to this program is competitive, just as are many programs in physical therapy, medicine and other Health professions.

  • Non-academic requirements for admission to the clinical are detailed in the admissions addendum included in the application packet, and include:
    • Completed application packet & receipt of all supporting documentation
    • Proof of U.S. citizenship or sponsorship in an undergraduate degree program by a college or university affiliated with this program
    • Ability to meet essential requirements of the program for matriculation
    • Proof that all program & degree requirements are complete before entry
    • Recommendation without reservation by the college advisor, any references contacted, and the Admissions Committee
