Heart Transplant Program
Heart or Cardiac Transplant

A surgical procedure performed on patients with a diseased heart often from end-stage heart failure or severe coronary artery disease. The most common procedure is to take a healthy heart from a recently deceased organ donor and implant it into the patient.
The Saint Luke's Difference
  • Shorter waiting times - More than 28 percent of our patients receive transplants within 30 days, compared to the national average of 17 percent. And more than 89 percent receive their transplants within one year, compared to 52 percent nationally.
  • Excellent outcomes - Our one-year survival rate for heart transplant patients is 88 percent, compared to 86 percent nationally. At five years, our survival rate is 74 percent. The national average is 72 percent.
  • An experienced multi-disciplinary team involving gastroenterology, infectious disease, neurology, nephrology, pastoral, psychiatry, pulmonology, and social services are ready to provide support throughout the process.
