Medical Research
The goal of clinical research is to increase the body of knowledge in the field of medicine. Translating scientific and engineering discoveries into effective new therapies for people in and around Kansas City is at the heart of what we do. Saint Luke's participates in
  • Clinical Research - the clinical application of medical research through clinical studies designed according to FDA regulations
  • Translational Research - the study from the lab to the bedside

The Saint Luke's Difference
  • In 2006, over 200 Saint Luke's research projects were sponsored by the National Institute's of Health; the American Heart Association; pharmaceutical and device partners; as well as the Saint Luke's Hospital Foundation.
  • Thousands of Kansas City area patients participated in over 250 clinical trials currently underway at Saint Luke's.
  • Seventy-four practicing clinicians are also involved in clinical research.

  • New Investigational Procedure
    Patients who are considered high risk or non-operable for conventional open heart valve surgery for severe aortic stenosis now have a new option available only through Saint Luke's Mid America Heart Institute. The first procedure in the investigative PARTNER clinical trial was performed Sept. 10, 2008.
