Batterers come from all races, social statuses, income levels, religions, cultures, professions, heterosexual and homosexual relationships Push for quick involvement Extreme jealousy Controlling behavior "too good to be true" Verbally abusive in addition to physical abuse Tries to isolate the victim Uses intimidation Poor impulse control Breaks or strikes things in anger Substance abuse common Minimizes abuse - denies the severity or seems not to remember History of violence Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde personalities Rape or use of force in sex Threatens to take the kids away, file for custody Will do whatever it takes to drive the victim away then does whatever it takes to get the victim back
