Our goal is to provide you information about the NICU
and a taste of the care we will provide you and your baby.

The Saint Luke's Difference
  • 40 bed Level IIIb NICU at SLH cares for extremely premature and low birth weight infants as well as other infants requiring critical care.
  • We are a regional Perinatal / Neonatal referral center.
  • Board certified Neonatologists and Neonatal Nurse Practitioners are in-hospital 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
  • All RN nursing staff includes a dedicated surgery team.
  • Ongoing commitment to quality initiatives and research. (link for more info)
  • Dedicated team includes lactation consultants, respiratory therapists, social worker, neonatal nutritionist, developmental specialist, neonatal pharmacist, infant massage specialist, discharge planners, and child passenger safety technicians.
  • Saint Luke's Hospital's NICU is the first in Kansas and Missouri to complete the Wee Care Education-a program to promote the best outcomes for our tiny babies. We continue to be the only NICU in the Kansas City Metro area with this important training.
  • Saint Luke's Hospital has the only NICU in the Kansas City area with a March of Dimes Family Support Specialist.
  • Yearly NICU Reunion is held for graduate families.

Do You Know?
  • If your baby is born prematurely or requiring special care, he/she will not be transported to a different hospital but will remain with you.
  • That babies born prematurely can breast feed.
  • 60-68% of infants cared for in the Saint Luke's NICU go home breastfeeding.
  • Per Vermont Oxford Network, Saint Luke's NICU has a very low infection rate.
