Obstetrics (Ahb-ste-triks) The branch of medicine that deals with childbirth.

Perinatology (pear-E-nA-tah-lah-jE) Perinatologists, also called maternal and fetal physicians, work with patients who have pregnancy complications that may pose an increased risk to mother or baby.

Neonatology (Neo-nA-tah-lah-gee) A subspecialty of pediatrics that consists of the medical care of the ill or premature newborn infant.

Child Abuse Prevention

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and its purpose is to raise awareness of the signs and effects of child abuse and to remind everyone how to report suspected abuse.

What to look for:

  • Frequent bruises or injuries
  • Abrupt change in character or behavior
  • Signs of neglect

What to do:

  • Know the signs
  • Believe the child
  • Report suspected abuse or neglect
