Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) - Death due to an electrical problem in the heart. Different than a Heart Attack which is caused by heart muscle damage resulting from a blockage, not electrical problem.

How Common is Sudden Cardiac Death in Athletes? It is estimated that over 300 high school athletes die each year during organized sporting events!

	The Saint Luke's Difference

Saint Luke's Mid America Heart Institute operates K.C.'s only formal Athletic Heart Clinic specializing in the screening of young athletes. Dr. Anthony Magaliski is the Medical Director for the Athletic Heart Clinic. In addition to a busy cardiology practice, Dr. Magalski serves as the cardiologist for the Kansas City Chiefs. He recently was awarded an NFL grant to further his study in this area.
