The Children's SPOT
Speech Therapy
  • Speech and language delays or disorders can be associated with numerous diagnoses such as prematurity, developmental delay, autism spectrum, chronic ear infections and genetic syndromes.
  • In many cases, the cause of speech and language disorder is unknown.  Children in speech therapy many have difficulty related to poor sound production (articulation), dysfluency, (stuttering), receptive language (comprehension), expressive language (verbal expression), or voice (hoarseness).
  • The goal is to facilitate a child’s ability to communicate as efficiently and as effectively as possible.  Communication may be stimulated through the use of gestures, vocalization, words, or electronic communication devices.
  • Parent involvement in the therapeutic process is strongly emphasized and may include observation, training, and provision of home stimulation materials to expedite progress.
