Saint Luke's Cord Blood Program
Women who give birth at Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City have the option of donating blood from their umbilical cords for use in treatments for leukemia, sickle cell anemia, and dozens of other diseases and disorders. Donation is possible through an association between Saint Luke’s Hospital and the
St. Louis Cord Blood Bank based at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center. Saint Luke’s Hospital is the first and only public cord blood donation program in the Kansas City area.
By introducing the collection program in Kansas City, Saint Luke’s Hospital is helping to increase the world’s supply of umbilical-cord blood, which is rich in stem cells useful in the treatment of many conditions.
