- How long will I be in surgery?
The
length of time in surgery depends on the type of surgery and
whether or not it is done open or laparoscopically. This can vary
from 2-5 hours.
- What size will my new stomach be?
1-2
ounces.
- Will I have an epidural?
Generally,
no.
- Will I be in ICU?
Only if your surgeon
feels you need to be.
- Do you remove the gall bladder and
appendix?
It varies from patient to patient and
the decision is made at the time of surgery. If gallstones or
other gallbladder disease is present, it will certainly be
removed.
- How long will I be in the
hospital?
Your hospital stay depends on the
surgery you have, whether or not it was done open or
laparoscopically and whether or not you experience any
complications. Generally it will be 2-4 days.
- What kind of post-op care/help will I require once I go
home and for how long?
Some help may needed the first
week after you return home depending on the surgery and whether or
not it was done open or laparoscopically. Your surgeon will
provide instructions for home care.
- How long is the average recovery?
Recovery
depends on how fast you heal, the procedure you had, and whether
or not it was done laparoscopically.
